End User License Agreement
Please read this End User License Agreement (“EULA”) carefully before using Ongenet. By downloading, installing, or using Ongenet, you agree to be bound by this EULA.
1. Parties and scope
This EULA is between you (“User” or “you”) and Chris, the individual developer of Ongenet (“Licensor”, “we”, or “us”). It applies to pre-built binaries of Ongenet (desktop and Android applications) and the browser-based web demo. The Ongenet source code is licensed separately under the MIT License and is not replaced by this EULA.
2. License grant
Subject to this EULA, we grant you a free, non-exclusive, worldwide, revocable license to download, install, and use Ongenet for personal or commercial music production, consistent with the MIT License for the underlying source code. You may use Ongenet without creating an account or paying a fee.
3. Open-source software
Ongenet is open-source software. The MIT License permits you to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and sell copies of the source code, subject to the MIT License conditions (including retention of the copyright notice). Nothing in this EULA restricts rights granted to you under the MIT License for source code obtained from our public repository.
4. Restrictions
You may not:
- misrepresent Ongenet as your own original product without appropriate attribution;
- use the Ongenet name or branding in a way that implies endorsement without permission;
- use Ongenet in violation of applicable law.
You may reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the software to the extent permitted by applicable law and the MIT License for source code.
5. No automatic updates or phone-home
Ongenet does not automatically check for updates or transmit usage data to us. If the desktop application writes a crash log after an unhandled error, that file remains on your device only and is not sent to us. You are responsible for obtaining updates from official distribution channels (such as GitHub Releases) if you choose to do so.
6. Third-party components
Ongenet includes or may interoperate with third-party software, including but not limited to:
- audio plugins (CLAP, LV2, VST2, VST3, AU) that you install separately;
- optional external tools such as
ffmpeg; - Ableton Link (GPL-licensed, isolated in the Ongenet.Link assembly);
- GPU and platform libraries (e.g. Vulkan, MoltenVK, platform audio and MIDI APIs).
Third-party software is subject to its own license terms. We do not warrant the behaviour, compatibility, or safety of third-party plugins or tools. Plugin crashes may occur; optional plugin isolation for certain VST3 effects is provided as a convenience but does not guarantee uninterrupted operation.
6a. Factory content library
Desktop builds may include a bundled Content/Core pack (samples, loops, and soundfonts). That audio content is licensed separately from the MIT Ongenet application:
- Only CC0 / public-domain and CC-BY (or clear redistribution-permitted equivalents) material is shipped.
- You may use factory content in personal and commercial music releases.
- Where a pack is CC-BY, credit the listed authors as described in
Content/Core/ATTRIBUTION.md(also available from Settings → Legal → Factory content attribution). A user-facing catalogue is in the Factory content guide. - Do not claim authorship of third-party factory packs or re-sell the pack itself as a standalone product.
Folders you add yourself under Settings → Library remain your responsibility; always check each pack’s licence.
7. Your content and data
You retain all rights to projects, audio, MIDI, presets, and other content you create with Ongenet. Such content is stored locally on your device. We do not access, copy, or claim ownership of your content. Optional local crash logs (see the Privacy Policy) are also stored only on your device under your control. You are solely responsible for backing up your work.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that Ongenet will be error-free, uninterrupted, compatible with all hardware or plugins, or free from data loss. You use Ongenet at your own risk.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the Licensor be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising from your use of Ongenet.
Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising under or relating to this EULA or Ongenet shall not exceed the amount you paid for Ongenet (which, for the free software provided here, is zero).
Nothing in this EULA excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation.
10. Termination
This EULA is effective until terminated. You may terminate it at any time by uninstalling Ongenet and ceasing all use. We may terminate this EULA if you materially breach its terms. Upon termination, you must stop using Ongenet. Sections that by their nature should survive (including disclaimers and limitations of liability) will survive termination. The MIT License continues to apply to source code you obtained under that license.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy describes how we handle information. In summary, we do not collect or receive user data from the application. Local crash logs, if written, stay on your device and are never uploaded.
12. Changes to this EULA
We may update this EULA from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the latest version. Continued use of Ongenet after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated EULA.

This EULA is governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from or relating to this EULA, subject to any mandatory consumer protection rights in your country of residence.
